I added the journaling by hand and the date with a date stamp to a tag from my stash.

I used a paper punch from Fiskars to cut the notebook paper edge from the yellow paper.  This gave this page some great texture.

DSCN1259I stapled the banners to the page with the tiny attacher and popped a few of the banners with foam tape so that it had the feeling of movement.

Brother to Brother with October Afternoon Daily Flash Snapshots

The Layout

Still experimenting with which I like better, the pictures better with the Flash On:

I think flash on is winning… but I am not sure.

The Details

I have been doing such a good job using some of my older (hoarded) paper stash, I decided that I could reward myself by using some of my new paper acquisitions.  I ordered Daily Flash about a month ago and it reignited my love for October Afternoon paper and inspired me to use some older lines that had long been languishing in my stash.  I haven’t let myself use the newer paper yet…until today.  I

had pulled this picture to use with another sheet of paper (from My Mind’s Eye’s Cut & Paste.), but I was not finding any paper I really liked to go with that sheet and this photo… so I returned to the stash and the red in Carter’s shirt led me directly to the red sheet (Shutter Speed) from OA’s Daily Flash Snapshots line.  I really love this pattern, but knew it was “too much” print to use a full sheet of it for this layout.  I decided I would use a white background, and after a fail with the ink splatters (it looked like I had bled all over the paper), I decided I would keep the layout clean.   About halfway through assembling the page I decided I would add black splatters at the end… but again, I change my mind. (See what I mean about needing to learn to go with the flow of the “mistakes’’ with some of the artsier techniques…. I am still learning and struggling with this some.)

I chose the yellow polka dot (the b-side of Focus) (I bought this paper knowing I would use the yellow side, I love a good yellow polka dot), and the grey chevron (Travel Guide from Oa’s Travel Girl collection) to use as my layering patterns.  I  knew I was going to want to use the “picture perfect” from Daily Flash’s Compose sheet.  I thought I was going to use the slide frame, and the “InstaLove’ squares, but they didn’t make the layout. I did, however, use a tiny bit of the map paper from the travel guide sheet to add a little extra layering under the photograph.  I inked all my edges with black.

The piece with the “photographs” banner came from the Daily Flash Memory Cards.  I got a lot of mileage from  this tiny 3×3 sheet by trimming it and adding it to the layered grouping at the bottom of the page.DSCN1110

I used my exacto knife and cut the banner away from the card and layered it over the grey chevron piece.  I inked those edges and supported the flip with a pop dot underneath.

I really wanted to bring a little of the teal from the line into this layout even though I didn’t use any paper that had that color in it…(remember, I said I wanted to use that “instalove piece,” but I couldn’t find room for it).  I started rooting through the April Swag Bag from Paper Issues.  I had added a few embellies from my own stash to the assortment they sent, so these items may not be a direct copy of what came in the bag, but they were items inspired by what they had constructed.  I know the wood hearts came from my own supplies, as did the potty people boy, and the bingo chip; those items were added, however, because they really seemed to fit the motif that Paper Issues had put together in their kit.  The geo tag, twine, and tag (with heart poked in it!!!) came from the swag bag… and were the primary focus of my embellishment cluster.  The Snapshots piece is from October Afternoon, but I don’t know if I had that before or not.  I used a mixture of teal, mint green and white color shine mist from Heidi Swapp to paint the little hearts the right color of blue to match the blue I was trying to incorporate.

I added some little strips to the bottom left and top right corners.   Finally, I added some tiny attacher staples, a piece of red paper under the heart on the tag and a tiny piece of vellum under the edge of the tag.

Making What’s Old New Again

The Issue

With the loss of our last scrapbook store in town (there are two within about an hours drive, so I am not totally lost), I have found that I have had to change the way that I scrapbook…  I can no longer run out and buy that extra sheet of patterned paper that I used all of to mount my page, go peruse the shop to find the perfect embellishment to finish off a layout, or just rest comfortably knowing that last sheet of my favorite paper will be available for me to pick up on a whim.

What, you may ask, is a girl to do when she suddenly finds herself in a whole new world when it comes to scrapbooking (and doesn’t want to send herself into massive panic because she is gobbling up that gorgeous new paper she just ordered)?

I started by watching some Glitter Girl videos over a Two Peas in a Bucket.  She does an excellent job matching paper from various lines, so I wanted to take a page from her book… A challenge, for sure, but one that has been tons of fun.  The following layouts show case a few layouts in which I took paper from deep in my files (ie some really old paper and embellishments).

Enjoy!!!
